It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.

It's the most efficient robotic cleaner and mop hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they are.
If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
